The United States Mint did not produce any half dimes between the years 1806 and 1828. This finally changed with the release of the 1829 Capped Bust Half Dime. The coins had a mintage of 1,230,000, which was a significant increase from the earlier series.

  • 1831
For a third year in a row, the mintage level for the half dime remained above the one million mark. This was a significant change from the two earlier series, which had been struck in quantities of less than 100,000 for each year of issue.
  • 1832
The 1832 Capped Bust Half Dime is one of two years of the series with a mintage of less than one million, although this does not result in a premium. All nine different dates for the series are more or less available, although attention should be paid to
  • 1833
Now in the fifth year of the series, the 1833 Capped Bust Half Dime had a mintage of 1,370,000 pieces. Since the resumption of production for the denomination, the US Mint had now struck more than six million half dimes.
  • 1834
This year contains the first of several noted varieties for the series. Some 1834 Capped Bust Half Dimes display a "3 over inverted 3" in the second digit of the date. The variety commands a premium across all grade levels.
  • 1835
The 1835 Capped Bust Half Dime has the highest mintage for the series at 2,760,000 pieces. There are also four different varieties created by the size of the date and the denomination. Both come in either large or smaller sizes.
  • 1836
For this year of the series, the inscription of the denomination on the reverse of the coin is found either small or large in size. The two varieties are noted, but generally trade for around the same price levels.
  • 1837
Representing the final year of the brief series, the 1837 Capped Bust Half Dime had a mintage of 871,000. The denomination on the reverse of the coin is found in small or large varieties. The "Small 5c" commands a premium above the "Large 5c".
